Optics and Light

DOP 06 - Light Pipe

Objective:

- To illustrate total internal reflection of light.

Apparatus:

• Laser (hand held laser diode)
• 3 Light pipes
• Stand, clamp

Method:

This arrangement is analogous to the transmission of light by fibre optics. Light projected from the neon laser at one end is emitted at the other. The internal light reflections are visible inside the rod.
