Optics and Light

DOP 07 - Fibre Optics Kit

Objective:

- To demonstrate transmission of light in a glass fibre.

Apparatus:

• Laser (hand held laser diode)
• Fibre optics kit
• Laser or Penlite with adapter

Method:

Glass fibres are bundled together in various lengths to transmit light by principle of multiple internal reflection.

Note:

Either the penlite or the laser may be used to illuminate fibre bundles, including ones with branches.
