DVW03 - Longitudinal Waves

Objective:

- To show propagation and reflection of compression waves.

- To show standing compression waves.

Apparatus:

DVW03 - Longitudinal Waves

Methods:

Longitudinal waves are produced by compressing and releasing about two inches of spring at one end. The wave travels along the spring and is reflected from the other end.

With practice, standing compression waves can be set up in the spring, using 2 fingers to drive the system.

Note:

Do not excessively stretch the spring.
